Jan Akkerman - The Last Will & Testament
Thanks for sharing bro👍
Wow Thijs is on fire here. He goes way high.
Schitterend!✨🤩
Schitterend!✨🤩
He played that song very well. The lute is not an easy instrument. It's similar to a guitar, has a lot more strings, and the finger plucking is very different. He did good.
looking all my life for a guitar player like him
They don’t present or play like this anymore.
Jan togheter Page is my favorite guitar player in the history of rock
Is he too classical for the guitar polls?
Great playing. An interesting hybrid of extended chords often found in jazz fusion of that era, as well as some classical changes, and even a touch of Chet Atkins in the last tune (Tranquilliser). Jan's solo albums up to that point were (and are) of very high artistic value, and it was commendable for Ahmet Ertugan of Atlantic Records to finance these endeavours, but it was commercial suicide. Jan needed another breakout hit like "Hocus Pocus" or "Sylvia." In 1976 George Benson had "Breezin'" and in 1978 Chuck Mangione had "Feels so Good." These instrumentals topped the charts.
Ahmet Ertegun (spelling correction)
Zo leuk en dan die restless legs………..
That kicked ass 🎸☕
Semper Dowland, semper dowlens
Jan liet ze allemaal staan...
Hij kan ook alles geweldig Jan, een van de meest veelzijdige gitaristen, die alle stijlen kan spelen.
GRANDE JAN AKKERMAN, CLASSUDO SEMPRE. UM MAGO NA ARTE DAS CORDAS.
Jan is a Pioneer and one of the best of all time. Such a genius
Sorry Jan is not a Jazz Rock Guitarist.
Er könnte das Telefonbuch von Amsterdam runtetleiern, und ich wäre verzückt.
Jan Akkerman è sicuramente il più dotto chitarrista rock. Anzi definirlo solo rock, è riduttivo. Grande chitarrista e liutista, grande compositore
fantastic !
In his pyjama.
Electric lute?
Amazing and that by using only 6 of the snares!
Like Holdsworth, Ackerman’s brain just works on a higher harmonic plane than the rest of us
I play this on the classical guitar and have a renaissance lute. It's no easy to play John Dowland's fantasia on either instrument. Well done Mr Ackerman my Dutch hero. 👍🍺🍺🇮🇪🇮🇪
turn the 3rd string down to F# and it's not so bad. Otherwise, almost impossible.
The best guitarist/lutanist of the rock era? I don't hear any contradictions.
Thanx so much for this post, it's fascinating for me: along with Beck he's been a soundtrack in my life since a kid, I saw him in the UK a few times in the early '70s and have been listening to 'Live at Montreux '78' (with the band) forever. I didn't even know he'd played a solo set there. First rock guy who played chromatic runs, proper pianistic chords; remarkable guitar player.
saw them at reading university in the uk late 70's, Jans simply a genius, absolute perfection
I love Focus so much!!!
I would have loved to have been in that little cafe
Anyone know what the first song is?
skydancer
Wow, this is great, thanks for posting.
Don't forget that the other man is Stefan Grossman, a great guitarist himself.
Effortless inspired brilliance . What isn't too like ?
very cool, then 😄and now!
I enjoy it!😀
Thank you verry Dutch
geweldig nr jan love it xx
The man that's so underated great player a master
This is my favourite version of "sukiyaki", I recognised it from a Czechoslovakian version which had high-pitched "chipmunk" backing vocals, I thought that was a great song but more upbeat than this version, and to think they were both covers! Amazing what a different sound you can make out of the same composition. This plain arrangement works brilliantly with the almost dreamy guitar chords and very laid back singing. Seriously, that guitar... looks like the guitarist adds insane amounts of vibrato to those chords, and somehow mutes the tone, beautiful - I don't play guitar.
Wonderful
Beautiful Lute playing, I just wish this recording was in better quality. Jan has always been one of my greatest guitar inspirations of all time. He has accomplished so many amazing things. You Are The Best, Jan. So live forever knowing that. You are the best!!! God Bless.
OMG .Those gigs in Copenhagen in the seventies was awesome. Always a packed house of 5000 spectators. Those were the days my friend 👍
ESSES CARAS SAO OTIMOS...ABS.
Jan Akkerman- one of the great musicians of our time.
Fire should be flying off that guitar. Insane, incredible and intense solos.
insanity
Heavy-metal numskulls need to look and listen to this first of all to understand how little their knowledge of music is and how modest their fast playing technique is.
Lute Hero.
